The Philadelphia Journalism Collaborative grew out of The Reentry Project. That innovative short-term effort covering the challenges of starting over after jail or prison grew into a permanent collaboration.

For five years we operated under the name Broke in Philly, covering economic mobility and anti-poverty work in our city with a solutions journalism approach. During that time our work won multiple awards, including Collaboration of the Year from LION Publishers. After concluding Broke in Philly, we relaunched as the Philadelphia Journalism Collaborative in October 2023.

In July 2025, PJC moved from its founding home at Resolve Philly to join Temple University’s Center for Community-Engaged Media. We’re thankful to Resolve for nurturing the project for years.  At Temple, we aim to provide partner newsrooms with additional support, while also engaging students in the process of collaborative journalism.
